Chairman and Non-Executive Director of the Trustee
James Philips is the former Head of Corporate at two major law firms, and a former Board member and Chair of the Audit Committee at one of them.
James holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Laws degrees and is a visiting lecturer in Corporate Law at the University of Sydney. He is a non-executive director of the Centre for Independent Studies.
James Murchison brings a Chartered Accountant’s independent oversight through his directorship of Markham’s trustee company.
Prior to establishing Murchisons, James held a management position with KPMG (formerly Peat Marwick) in audit, business services and insolvency. His broad corporate and accounting experience includes establishing sustainable corporate governance frameworks, risk assessment and management processes for businesses.
James has a Bachelor Commerce degree from UNSW, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and a member of Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Immediately prior to becoming a Non-Executive Director, Max held the position of Chief Operating Office at Markham and was formerly its Chief Financial Officer, a position he held from 2013 to 2019.
Max is both very experience and commercially astute with more than 30 years in the property sector.
Prior to joining Markham, Max held senior finance and secretarial positions within Australia. His experience includes long term roles with Stockland, including as National Financial Controller specialising in operational and compliance management and with Mirvac as Group Company Secretary and Financial Controller.
Max is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia (formerly Chartered Secretaries Australia).
